Caramel Rolls Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast

  • 1 cup warm milk

  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar

  • 1/3 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 1 tsp salt

  • 2 large eggs

  • For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon

  • For the Caramel Sauce:

  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup

  • 1/4 tsp salt

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

Directions

  • In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm milk. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  • Add sugar, butter, eggs, and salt. Mix well.
  • Gradually add flour, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5–7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt butter.
  • Stir in brown sugar, cream, corn syrup and salt. Cook for 2–3 minutes, stirring constantly, until smooth.
  • Pour the caramel sauce into a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle with chopped pecans.
  • Punch down the risen dough and roll it out into a 16×12-inch rectangle.
  • Spread softened butter over the surface.
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle it evenly over the butter.
  • Roll the dough tightly from the long side into a log. Slice into 12 equal rolls.
  • Arrange the rolls cut side down over the caramel in the baking dish.
  • Cover and let them rise for 30–45 minutes until puffy.
  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for 25–30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  • Let the rolls cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Carefully invert the pan onto a serving platter so the caramel is on top.
