Apple Crumble Recipe For Baby

Ingredients

  • 700g of apples

  • 50g of dates, chopped

  • Half a teaspoon of cinnamon

  • 50 milliliters of water

  • 85g of all purpose flour

  • 85g of rolled oats

  • 60g of soy spread or butter

  • Half an orange’s zest

Directions

  • Turn the oven on to 180°C.
  • To begin, peel every apple.
  • Fill a pan with fifty milliliters of water and bring it to a boil.
  • To ensure that your final dish has a decent mix of well-cooked and chunkier, harder apples, chop the apples into fairly small pieces and add them to the boiling water as you go.
  • After adding all of the apples to the pan, lower the heat a little and add the dates and cinnamon. Put a lid on the pan and cook for about ten more minutes. If needed, you can add a little more water.
  • Reduce the heat to a boil and take off the lid once some of the apples are nice and soft. After letting any leftover water drain from the pan, take the apple mixture off the heat and pour it into the bottom of a crumbles dish (any size would work, but mine should be around 20 cm by 20 cm).
  • Using your fingers to combine the butter, oats, and flour with the orange zest in a bowl. Alternatively, pulse the ingredients in a food processor.
  • Pour the mixture over the apples and shake the container a little to ensure it fills in the spaces after it has a consistency similar to breadcrumbs and has been thoroughly blended.
  • Bake the crumble for about 20 minutes, or until the top is nicely golden brown. Serve warm, garnished with a little orange zest and a scoop of natural yogurt.

Serving Suggestions for Apple Crumble

Serve this apple crumble warm or at room temperature, ensuring it’s cooled enough for your baby to handle. You can mash it slightly for younger babies or serve it as-is for older babies who are comfortable with soft, chunky textures.

Pair it with a spoonful of plain yogurt or a small glass of milk for a balanced snack. Always supervise your baby while eating to ensure safety.

Storage Instructions

Store leftover apple crumble in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 2 days. Reheat it gently in the microwave or on the stovetop, making sure it’s not too hot before serving. For longer storage, freeze individual portions in baby-safe containers for up to 1 month. Thaw in the fridge overnight and reheat as needed.

FAQs

Q: Can I use other fruits besides apples?
A: Yes! Pears, peaches, or bananas are great alternatives. Just make sure they’re soft and easy for your baby to eat.

Q: Is this recipe suitable for babies with allergies?
A: This recipe is naturally egg-free and nut-free. If your baby has a gluten intolerance, use certified gluten-free oats.

Q: Can I add sugar or honey to sweeten it?
A: Avoid adding sugar or honey for babies under 1 year old. The natural sweetness of the apples is usually enough. For older babies, a tiny pinch of cinnamon or a drizzle of mashed banana can enhance the flavor.

Q: How do I know if my baby is ready for this texture?
A: This recipe is ideal for babies who have started eating soft, mashed foods and are ready for slightly chunkier textures. Always consult your pediatrician if you’re unsure.

Q: Can I make this in advance?
A: Yes! You can prepare the apple filling and crumble topping separately and assemble them just before baking. It’s a great time-saver for busy parents.
